Get Distracted Much?

(AP/Fox News Sunday)
Wow, this whole Chris Wallace-Bill Clinton face-off has certainly captured the nation's attention. Who came off looking better obviously depends on which side of the political fence one sitting on. But as seriously as many are taking all this, it appears we can't talk about anything anymore without some flip, puerile angle to it. In this instance, it's all about the former president's socks. Author and screenwriter Nora Ephron kicked it off yesterday at the Huffington Post:
What surprised me most about the Clinton meltdown yesterday was that no one told him to pull up his socks. This is a man who never goes anywhere without staff, lots of staff. Was there no one there to see that his pants were hiked up too high and his socks were pulled down too low and the flesh on his legs was showing?
Conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh jumped on the topic too:
We're talking about a former president. It's really bad form to wear socks that are too short when you're sitting down and your slacks are a little high on your calf up there, and you've got pasty white ankles and thighs, don't even have a golf tan under there, it's distracting.
Sigh. It's troubling enough that five years after 9/11 we're still obsessed with the political blame game on the terrorist attacks but now we're spending time worrying about someone's sock-line?
