Former Maine assistant A.G. James Cameron going to prison for child porn, gets 16 years

AP

(CBS/AP) BANGOR, Maine - James Cameron used to be the top drug prosecutor for the state of Maine.

Now, he's going to prison for 16 years for possessing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge John Woodcock Thursday imposed the sentence on Cameron, who was convicted last summer of 13 counts of transporting, receiving and possessing child porn.

The porn was discovered on computers seized from Cameron's home in December 2007. At the time, he was serving as an assistant attorney general in Maine.

Prosecutors say the judge concluded there were 600 pornographic images on Cameron's computers depicting sadistic and violent conduct involving children.

Cameron, who's 48, has been in custody since his conviction. The defense plans to appeal.

Cameron's attorney has said the government failed to prove it was Cameron who sent, received or possessed the images.
