Flashback to 1993: Biden cameos on "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"

After former presidential candidate Mitt Romney went after Big Bird in the first presidential debate, many Democrats - including President Obama - were quick to stand up for PBS, America's most well-known public broadcasting channel. But if the early-90s video archives are to be believed, vice president Joe Biden has been a champion of PBS for years: In 1993, he made a cameo appearance on the service's "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" a geography show for kids.

In a clip posted on the website Political Smokeout from a November 8, 1993 episode of the show, the then-Delaware Senator is featured phoning the show's host, Greg Lee, to offer him an award for being the "somewhat notable detective of the next twelve minutes."

Watch the clip above. The Biden appearance starts a little after the eight-minute mark.
