"Elysium" debuts new extended trailer

A new extended trailer has been unveiled for Matt Damon's sci-fi epic "Elysium," and it packs a lot of action into its three minutes.

Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp ("District 9"), the film takes place in the year 2154, when the poverty-stricken masses live on Earth while the elite have left for a life of leisure on the utopian spaceship Elysium.

Damon plays an ex-felon-turned-factory worker who decides to break into Elysium. This new trailer gives more background on who the character is, and why he needs to get up there.

"Elysium" also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley ("District 9"), Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner. It arrives in theaters on Aug. 9.
