Elizabeth Edwards Denies Cate Custody Scenario

Is Elizabeth Edwards preparing her oldest daughter to care for her siblings if she dies?

On Tuesday morning, the New York Daily News  reported that cancer-stricken, estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards was  looking into whether the couple's 28-year-old daughter, Cate, could assume legal guardianship over their two youngest children, Jack,10, and Emma,12.

According to the newspaper, Elizabeth doesn't want to leave her children in the custody of John, or Rielle Hunter, the mother of John's out-of-wedlock, infant daughter.

MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell throws some cold water on the Daily News story. In an email to O'Donnell, Elizabeth Edwards denies that she is prepping Cate to take care of her youngest children in the event of her death.

"There is no truth whatsoever to the story that I am trying to deny John custody of the children after my death," she wrote.
