McGraw said he has been waiting all summer to get more "up close and personal" with people on his show because, he said, "that's what they want."

"This year, I've got the people's back," McGraw said. "I just feel like we're in this together. We'll going to have a good year. I'm optimistic about America."

"Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez remarked there are a lot of distractions on the street, such as taxis and trucks.

Is Dr. Phil up for the challenge?

He said he's ready. "This is a time that we're really going to meet the people where they are," he said. "We're going to talk about what's important in their lives."
