Debate Commission Co-Chair "Still Hopefull"

In an interview with Newsweek at the Memphis airport this morning, Frank Fahrenkopf, co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates, said he is "still hopeful" there will be a debate tonight. While he allowed that McCain's declaration this week has caused some "consternation," Fahrenkopf added, "we're hopeful that things will get far enough along today that we will have the debate."

And if John McCain does not show up? "There will not be a debate," Fahrenkopf said, noting that any event featuring just Barack Obama would be an "illegal contribution" to the Obama campaign. Watch the interview:
