Davis Asks For A Hearing On MoveOn Ad
Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) is calling for an investigation into whether The New York Times violated campaign finance laws when it ran a now-infamous MoveOn.org ad.
On Tuesday, Davis wrote a letter to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) requesting a hearing to investigate the matter.
Davis, who is the committee’s ranking Republican, wants the panel to investigate whether the newspaper gave a possible in-kind political contribution to MoveOn.org in the form of a discounted advertising rate for its Sept. 10 ad, calling Army General David Petraeus “General Betray Us.”
The ad sparked national controversy, with Republicans decrying the ad as treasonous, eager to force Democrats to speak out against MoveOn, a key interest group.
