Dave And Jen's Date On Hold

On Monday, The Early Show weatherman Dave Price met his match.

Culminating a month-long contest that included an online poll, Price asked Jennifer to accompany him to tonight's finale of the TV show "Cupid" in Los Angeles.

It was supposed to be the big date. But Hurricane Isabel came along, and so now Price is on the East Coast while Jen is on the West Coast.

Price said, "Isabel is bearing down on all of us and so I had no choice. But we'll make it up to Jen."

Jennifer, however, will be not be attending the finale for "Cupid," alone. A soap star will accompany her to the show. And, her day with Dave is postpone to a date to be determined.

On Friday, Price - and TV viewers - met Jennifer, Lori and Marcy, the three contestants who wanted to go out with Price.

Over the weekend, several thousands viewers voted online and 49 percent of them chose Jennifer. Ultimately, the decision was Price's, and he agreed to go along with viewers.

"It's important if you get to know the viewers and the viewers get to know you. I'm going to listen to what you have to say," he said.

So he got Jennifer on the phone and officially asked her for a date: "Would you be so kind to come to LA with me for the season finale of "Cupid" and a lovely dinner and night out in Los Angeles?"

To which Jennifer answered, "I would love to, Dave." He noted her tone was not so enthusiastic. "I'm excited. I really am," she assured him.

Pleased with the response, Price said, "It's going to be great. CBS is going to pay for this whole thing and we'll spend like there's no tomorrow. I'm going to get you a mink coat and buy you a brand new Cadillac and it's going to be terrific."

Jennifer was the one who, on their first meeting, used weather terminology when asked if she liked to talk about cloud formations.

Price noted, "You had me at cumulo nimbus. This is a woman who has so much in common with me. Going back to our days in earth science in junior high school. So I really hope I'm a decent date."

Though Jennifer seemed confident it would turn out well, co-anchor Harry Smith encouraged Price to ask her what her expectations are.

"OK, fine. Tell me what you'd like to do, anything. The sky is the limit," Price asked Jennifer. The question obviously caught her by surprise. Price quickly noted, "Jennifer, I don't know if you're nervous at all, but I am sweating right now."

Jen said she was feeling similarly. Price continued, "So we're just as nervous for one another and what we'll do is go out and have a good time. There will be about 15 or 20 people in the television and production crew around us -reality TV - so act like no one is there but you and I taking a stroll along the beautiful West Coast."

"That's so romantic," she said.

Now Price's work has put their special date on hold. How will he make it up to Jen? The pair will just have to calm their nerves a little while longer.
