Dangers Of Estrogen

A large study of estrogen-only hormone therapy has been halted due to new health concerns for women.

Estrogen-only therapy is a type of hormone replacement normally prescribed for women who have had a hysterectomy, as opposed to the combination therapy of progestin and estrogen that was heard so much about in recent years.

A large trial looking at women who took estrogen-only hormone therapy has also been stopped, just as the trial of combination hormone therapy was halted in 2002 because of health dangers for women.

On Wednesday's The Early Show, medical correspondent Dr. Emily Senay is scheduled to report on the latest about the studies.
