Crane Accident Kills 1 in NYC

A construction worker is dead and two other people injured Friday morning in a crane collapse in Chelsea section of Manhattan.

The deadly accident happened when the crane -- apparently overburdened with weight -- buckled in half and came down on one of the workers.

Fire Chief Donald Burns says investigators are looking into the possibility that operator error was to blame.

Although there are wind gusts of up to 25 miles an hour in the area, Burns says those remnants of Tropical Storm Floyd are not to blame for the crane's collapse.

He says the victim's family is being notified, and the man's name is not yet being released to the public.

Emergency crews are still on the scene at 6th Avenue and 24 Street, where a 27-story residential building is under construction.
