Cops: Teen threw hand sanitizer on boy, lit him on fire

PHILADELPHIA -- A 17-year-old in Philadelphia is accused of throwing hand sanitizer on an 11-year-old boy and then lighting him on fire with a cigarette lighter, reports CBS Philly.

Authorities say they learned of the incident at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday after they were flagged down in reference to an aggravated assault that happened earlier that night.

The alleged victim reportedly told police that the offender threw hand sanitizer on his body, then placed a cigarette lighter to the area, causing him to catch on fire.

Police say the victim suffered 2nd degree burns to the left side of his body. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

At around 8:15 p.m. that night, police say officers located the 17-year-old suspect, detained him and transported him to Mercy Hospital where he was positively identified by the victim.

The teen is expected to be charged as an adult, reports the station.
