Clinton Pitches Drug Plan

President Clinton wants to include prescription drug coverage for people who are on the federal health plan.

With a new budget deadline approaching, the president is trying one last time to push through his Medicare drug plan. But Republicans have rejected his plan as too costly.

Still, as White House and congressional negotiators continue to haggle over details of federal spending, Mr. Clinton is making a White House speech Monday plugging the idea once more.

The two sides face a self-imposed deadline of Tuesday for striking a bargain on government spending for the new fiscal year. But disputes remain on a half-dozen spending bills.

Rosie O'Donnell is performing at a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton.

Also Monday, Clinton heads to New York for an evening of fund-raising to benefit his wife's expected Senate bid. Dubbed by organizers "Broadway for Hillary", it includes a theater performance featuring Nathan Lane and Rosie O'Donnell.
