Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo arrested for drunk driving
(CBS/WOIO/AP) SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio - Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving early Monday morning 25 miles from Cleveland.
Choo asked a Sheffield Lake police officer for directions to a neighboring suburb. The officer proceeded to give him directions and said he would follow the player to make sure he got to his destination, reports CBS affiliate
WOIO. Choo pulled over another time and asked for directions again.
Choo's eyes were bloodshot and he smelled of "an alcoholic beverage," police said, and he was ordered out of his SUV.
A subsequent breathalyzer test showed Choo's blood-alcohol level was .20, two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
The outfielder released a statement regarding his arrest.
"I sincerely apologize to my family, teammates, fans, and the Indians' organization for the attention stemming from this matter, however I am hopeful that this incident will not be a distraction to the Indians organization while we remain focused on continuing to play winning baseball. Since this is a legal matter, I look forward to it being resolved within the court system as soon as possible."
Choo is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
