Cheney Heads To Hill To Lobby For Bailout Plan

With conservative Republicans threatening to oppose Treasury's proposed $700 billion economic rescue authority, Vice President Dick Cheney and Office of Management and Budget Director Jim Nussle are making a special trip up to Capitol Hill this morning in an effort to limit defections and build support for the plan, according to congressional sources.

The two former House members still have some sway with congressional Republicans, and the White House needs to shore up support from GOP lawmakers now that liberal Democrats are also starting to break against the proposal.
