The poll found 55 percent of Americans felt Starr should drop the investigation immediatelyÂ—5 percent more than felt the same way two weeks ago. Only 12 percent of those polled rated Starr favorably.
But that's not to say Americans disbelieve Clinton had an affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. Those polled were more likely than not to think Clinton had the affairÂ—45 percent said the accusations were probably true.

This poll was conducted among a nation-wide random sample of 782 adults, interviewed by telephone March 1-2, 1998. The error due to sampling could be plus or minus four percentage points for results based on the entire sample; the error on individual change is much smaller.
