Bullets from burglary shootout nearly hit neighboring family

ORLANDO, Fla. -A Florida homeowner was injured during a shootout with alleged burglars, and his neighbors were nearly struck by stray bullets, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

Deputies say just before midnight Tuesday, two burglars forced their way inside an Orlando home, and soon after exchanged gunfire with the man who resides there.

The victim knew the intruders, deputies said. The suspects fled after the shooting, and the victim drove himself to a nearby hospital. His condition was not disclosed.

Deputies believe one of the assailants was also shot, but a search of the neighborhood did not locate anyone.

During the gunfire, bullets shattered the bedroom window in a neighboring home, inches from where Sabita Parsaram was sleeping.

"I thought somebody threw a brick or something, but I heard a gunshot and it could have killed me," said Parsaram.

Parsaram said her family was uninjured, but shaken after the close call.

"They couldn't sleep," said Parsaram. "I was trying to get them to go back to bed, because they have to go to school and they don't want to go. They're scared."
