(CBS) Brooke Mueller is reportedly heading to Mexico to enter rehab.

Charlie Sheen's ex is going to a treatment facility in Cancun, TMZ reports, where she will see if Ibogaine, a plant-based treatment, will help her become sober.

The seven-day program is "extreme," the website reports, but Mueller hopes it will "rewire" her brain to break her addictions.

According to E! News, Inogaine, which is extracted from the iboga plant, is illegal in the United States because of its hallucinogenic qualities. But it is legal in several other countries, including Canada and Mexico, and the drug is used to treat addictions to alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamine.

"Hopefully it will help," a source close to Mueller told E! News. "Many people have done it with great success. The worst that can happen is that it won't work."

Earlier this month, Mueller reportedly completed a 45-day outpatient rehab program.
