Beauty Products to Help Beat Winter's Wrath

NEW YORK -- Winter's here -- and with it, the winter beauty blues.

Wicked winter weather can wreak havoc on healthy skin and hair, resulting in dry, flaky skin, chapped lips and fly-away hair, among other problems.

But on "The Early Show on Saturday Morning," Melissa Foss, beauty director of Natural Health magazine filled viewers in on perfect products to protect your skin, eyes, lips and hair from winter's wrath.

SKIN

TIP: Prep your skin with a primer, boost your foundation with an extra shot of moisture, and switch out your powder formulas for something cream based to get extra hydration and add glow.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm- $48 at www.Nordstrom.com
Makeup artists SWEAR by this- the ultimate pre-makeup priming treat for the skin, massage it in for an amazing glow and all day hydration. Apply your makeup over it for a smooth finish- and as the day goes on, pat it on the skin to re-energize. Also amazing as a treatment mask- leave it on for 15 minutes at night before wiping off to wake up with soft skin.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Cream Blush- $24 at www.elizabetharden.com
This luxuriously soft cream blush glides on effortlessly and blends evenly, bringing a natural-looking glow and the skin-caring technology of Ceramide Triple Complex science to your cheeks - for a fresher, more youthful appearance. Provides antioxidant protection with Vitamins A, C and E. Long-lasting, buildable color.

LIPS

TIP: Use an exfoliating polish a few times a week to keep lips smooth, and then go with a hydrating lipstick that really adheres to the lips and protects them. Going with gloss means you will likely end up re-applying all day long, which dries out the mouth and leads to painful chapping.

Softlips PURE 100% Natural Lip Polish- $5.99 at drugstore.com
For a gentle, natural exfoliation, gently rub lips with the polish, rinse with warm water and wipe clean. The polish provides natural exfoliation for lips with organic coconut flakes and sugar leaving lips soft and smooth.

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge- $9.95 at drugstores
Say goodbye to the era of dry lips from long-wear lipstick. Introducing a new collection of conditioning, comfortable and easy-to-apply lip color that delivers 10 hours of fresh, vibrant wear. The easy one-step formula introduces Color Fix Technology, patented flexible new polymers that offer greater adhesion and truer color that won't flake off or fade. Formulated with Vitamin E and Ceramide 5, it provides a healthy shine instead of dreaded dryness characteristically associated with some long-wear color.

EYES

TIP: The combination of dry air and wind can make eyes extra sensitive- which is why I recommend you go with a creamy (not necessarily waterproof) mascara formula this time of year that isn't going to flake

Mark Celestial Eyes Shimmery Cream Shadows- $8 at www.meetmark.com
A creamy formula will adhere to the lids and even provide them with a little added hydration- plus it gives you a just-in-from-the-slopes glow. I also love cream shadows because they are versatile- very easy to layer to create as dramatic of a look as you please, or you can go subtle and natural.

L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara- $8.95 at www.lorealparis.com
The key is the innovative brush that precisely combines long and short bristles to capture and evenly coat every lash from root to tip and the formula is creamy and rich. Because you coat every lash from the get go you don't have to do multiple coats- and multiple coats is what causes dryness and flaking.

HAIR

TIP: Hair static is the main issue we face in the winter- and it is caused by an overall lack of moisture in the hair. So if you want to keep hair static free- keep it super hydrated- make sure you are using styling products packed with nourishing ingredients and anything you can do to reduce heat styling is a major bonus.

Biolage Thermal-Active Repair Cream- $14 at www.matrix.com
Ideal for all hair types, this leave-in conditioning repair cream provides severe heat protection with a light hold. Cera Heat Technology defends against split-ends and breakage while also repairing and strengthening hair, helping to avoid future damage. Infused with Mango Seed oil, this cream disperses heat evenly for a faster blow-out.

Dryer Sheets (Any brand will do!)
The quickest fix for pesky static- rub a dryer sheet along the scalp. Not only is this cheap and effective- but it leaves your hair smelling nice and clean!
