Bald eagle crashes into window at Oral Roberts University chapel
(CBS News) Oral Roberts University -- ORU -- is a Christian college based in Tulsa, Okla. Their athletic teams' mascot: The Golden Eagles. So it would make sense that they would hold a service in their chapel to kick off the fall semester, and that they would release a bald eagle to hype everybody up. Sounds like a solid plan, right? I mean, what could go wrong, really? Check out the video above and find out.
Before we go any further, it's important to note that no feathered icons of American freedom were harmed in the making of this video. The eagle was not hurt. With that out of the way, thanks to ORU student Lucas Cherry for posting this gem. When I first watched it, I thought, "What are they doing using an endangered species as a prop in their festivities?" But they weren't. Turns out, the bald eagle isn't endangered anymore. It hasn't been since 2007. However, the birds still get special treatment under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, which bans hunting or buying or selling them without a permit. (The law doesn't say anything about letting them fly into windows.)
I suppose my laughing at Lewis (yep, that's the eagle's name: Lewis) makes me seem insensitive. But I can't help it, it's funny. And he's fine, really. Need proof? Check out the video below.
