'American' Bride

The popular big screen comedy "American Pie" first introduced the world to Michelle Flaherty, an unusual teenager who enjoyed reminiscing about "this one time at band camp."

The memorable character, played by actress Alyson Hannigan, is back as a bride in the third and possibly final movie in the series, "American Wedding."

The film series, "American Pie," first introduced us to the East Great Falls High friends who tried to have a memorable summer before heading to college. In "American Pie 2," the same friends tried to rekindle the good times after navigating through their first year of college. In the third, and possible final installment, the buddies have graduated from college, and Jim (Jason Biggs) is taking the next step towards maturity — marrying his love, Michelle (Hannigan).

Hannigan tells The Early Show co anchor Rene Syler, "The opening scene is Jim and Michelle at a restaurant and he is about to pop the question. She has no clue, of course. And she thinks that he's getting bored with the relationship, so she tries to spice things up. Just chaos ensues and hilarity, hopefully. The thing with Jim in these movies is he's always trying to do the best thing, but it never goes the way it's supposed to. Like everything always goes wrong. It's funny."

Hannigan says she knew the wedding story would be funny because it has the sweetness and laughs of the first two. Also, the third installment of the series allowed her to experience some new friendships. Hannigan explains she never had the opportunity to work previously with all of the cast members of the "American Pie" series because most of her scenes were isolated with Biggs' character.

The movie is filled with over-the-top situations right before a wedding, something which the 29-year-old actress hopes not to endure during her real-life wedding to Alexis Denis, an actor who plays British demon-hunter Wesley Wyndam-Pryce on the WB television series "Angel."

Most fans may have been introduced to Hannigan's work when she played good witch Willow Rosenberg in the successful television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." As Willow and, later, Michelle in the early "American Pie" movies, Hannigan developed as the quirky, goofy character or sidekick. But, as "American Wedding" and an FHM magazine cover photo show, the scarlet-haired actress has grown up and become a sex symbol to some fans.
