911: My Mother's Murder

INTRODUCTION
Memphis, Tenn. , June 5, 2005

Noura Jackson calls police in the early morning hours to get help for her mother, Jennifer, who was the victim of a brutal attack in their home.

She calls 911 and is transferred to the fire department to give information for the ambulance.

You can hear Noura breathing heavily while waiting for an operator to pick up the call.

CONCLUSION

Jennifer Jackson was stabbed more than 50 times in her bed. Memphis Police conducted a four-month-long investigation.

On Sept. 29, 2005, Jennifer's 18-year-old daughter, Noura, was arrested for the crime.

A mother killed by her own child - or matricide - is a very rare crime. It accounts for less then 2 percent of homicides in the United States. A fraction of that is committed by daughters.

Almost four years after the murder, Noura Jackson finally stood trial, charged with first-degree murder. A jury deliberated for nine hours before finding Noura guilty of murder in the second degree - meaning without pre-meditation.

She was sentenced to 20 years and nine months in prison.

When Noura Jackson finishes serving her time, she will be 39-years-old, the same age as her mother when she was murdered.
