It's no wonder this active family called Los Angeles home. The sunshine and beaches make it the perfect place for surfing, running and, of course, volleyball. If you're not the sporty type but love trendy athletic clothes, head to Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade. The pedestrian-only mall has tons of shops, from well-known retailers to local, one-of-a-kind stores. Plus, there's a variety of restaurants to enjoy when you're done shopping.

Colorado Springs, Colo.

Average home sale price: $208, 481

Colorado Springs is the current home of 19-year-old U.S. Olympic gymnast John Orozco. It's a long way from his hometown in New York City, but it's easy to see why the high- and parallel-bar specialist would choose to crash in Colorado Springs -- the U.S. Olympic Training Center is located there.

The city sits at the front range of the Rocky Mountains and is well known for Pike's Peak, North America's most visited mountain. Athletes of all disciplines and levels can enjoy great running, hiking, and biking trails including Barr Trail, one of the most popular trails with locals. Once you've worked up an appetite, head to The Airplane Restaurant which features a Boeing KC-97 tanker that can seat 42 "passengers."
