Stuck Deer Rescued From Corona Lake Put Down Due To Possible Coyote Attack

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A deer rescued from Corona Lake had to be euthanized Tuesday due to serious wounds it sustained, presumably from a coyote attack.

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services said the doe had been rescued from the lake possibly due to too much mud, according to a statement.

The deer was taken to a main shelter to be checked out, and it was there officials located a major bite wound on its right side and a second bite wound between its hind legs.

The statement said Chief Veterinarian Allan Drusys examined the deer and determined the animal's injuries were far too serious for treatment.

"The doe was already in a state of shock and, ultimately, relieved of her suffering," the statement added.

Authorities believe the deer was attacked near the lake's muddy shoreline.
