Here is a preview of some of the unique, exciting museum exhibits Orange County will offer in 2013. Get ready for a diverse selection of exhibits highlighting art in all mediums, as well as history and science. From radical to contemporary, imaginative to exquisite, these exhibits will challenge, inspire and impress.

"Cut! Costume and the Cinema"

"Cut! Costume and the Cinema" marries two exciting artistic mediums: fashion and film. Journey through prominent eras such as: "fairy tale England," "colonial Virginia," "19th-century Paris" and "Shanghai in the 1930s," and explore the luxurious costumes worn by actors including Sandra Bullock in "In Love and War," Colin Farrell in "The New World," and Angelica Huston in "Ever After." Forty-three costumes will be displayed from a series of 25 films in this colorful, detailed exhibit; several of the garments showcased even received the prestigious Oscar award.

"Ex·pose: Allison Schulnik"

Schulnik's array of unique artwork including clay animations, paintings, sculptures and even films, all simultaneously haunting and beautiful, will be showcased at the Laguna Art Museum. Some of her films that will be at the exhibit include "Hobo Clown" (2008), "Forest" (2009) and "Mound" (2011). Influenced by the painter James Ensor (1860-1949), Schulnik's exhibit is composed of paintings that explore society's fringes. Allison Schulnik's work is presented by the ex·pose arts program that helps support contemporary artists in all artistic mediums.

Considered to be one of his generations most radical artists, Richard Jackson amplified the meaning and application of painting with his inventive take on painting practices. Some of his pieces incorporate sculptures and make normal household furniture magnificent and sublime. Attention everyone interested in how history can help serve as a tool to progress scientific research: "Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasure of Ethiopia" displays Africa's most ancient, complete human fossil and supports evolutionary research. This fossil, Lucy, was found in Ethiopia during the end of the 1900s and enabled scientists to further investigate the evolution of human beings. Be sure to check out this exhibit while it's in town, and expand your knowledge and curiosity regarding the theory of evolution.

Escape into the history of the notorious Italian family, the Medicis, and see some of the most exquisite gems along the way. Known for its artistic support in Florence spanning three centuries, the Medicis helped cultivate Italy's artistic fame. In addition to commissioning and funding resources for its artistic community, this powerful family was also able to use its wealth to acquire several pieces of renowned artwork. The "Gems of the Medici" is one of the Medici's prominent collections.
