Man Accused Of Murdering His Wife In 2008 Extradited Back To US From Mexico
CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A man accused of murdering his wife in Carson more than five years ago, has been extradited back to the United States from Mexico, authorities said.
Officials accused 35-year-old Carlos Reyes of shooting and killing his then 30-year-old wife, Veronica Reyes, as she arrived to work on the morning of October 8, 2008 just before 8:30 a.m.
The murder took place in the 900 block of East 233rd Street.
Officials said Carlos Reyes fled the area in a 2008 BMW. According to authorities, he then parked the car about a half a mile from the crime scene.
A few hours later, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Reyes drove a 2008 Toyota Camry and attempted to enter Mexico at the San Ysidro point of entry. Reyes was randomly sent to a secondary search area where a handgun was recovered from his vehicle. Reyes was arrested by Mexican Customs for the illegal importation of a firearm into Tijuana. He was turned over to the Federal Attorney General's Office for prosecution.
Reyes was sentenced for the firearm possession and given a term of 2-4 years in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Sheriff's Homicide investigators worked diligently with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Extradition Services Section, in obtaining the extradition.
Mexican officials on Friday released Reyes to the United States Marshals Service.
Officials took Reyes into custody and arrested him on the homicide warrant filed in 2008.
