Hug It Out! UC Riverside Mascot Attempts World Record

RIVERSIDE (CBS) — Talk about a bear hug!

Scotty Highlander, the mascot for UC Riverside...and you can't miss the bear costume, tried to set a world record Wednesday for most hugs in an hour.

He needed at least 1300 to break the record.

Unfortunately, organizers of the event say the rain kept crowds to a minimum and Highlander was only able to get about 900 hugs in, far short of his goal.

Despite it all, Highlander says he can bear to try again!
