FBI Nabs Alleged 'Tourist Bandit' In Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — The FBI announced Friday an arrest of the so-called 'Tourist Bandit', responsible for a series of bank heists in and around Hollywood and Venice.
Rex Lutton, 54, and no known address, was arrested Friday after officials say he attempted to rob a customer inside a Bank of America branch on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
The merchant customer was allegedly making a large transfer when he or she was held up by Lutton at knife point.
After an altercation, Lutton was said to have fled the premises where he was subsequently apprehended near the bank by security guards working in the area.
Lutton is also the suspect in a pair of bank robberies in West Hollywood and Venice earlier this week.
According to the FBI's Laura Eimiller, Lutton is a parolee at large who escaped from federal custody earlier this month.
Currently, Lutton is being held at the LAPD Hollywood Division.
