2 Million Votes Yet To Be Counted In California Primary
SACRAMENTO (AP) — Secretary of State Alex Padilla and other election observers say there are likely at least 2 million votes still to be counted from California's presidential primary election.
Padilla made the comments at a post-election forum Thursday. Paul Mitchell of Political Data Inc. says there could be as many as 3 million still-uncounted votes.
The remaining ballots are unlikely to swing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's win in the nation's most populous state. But down-ballot races could be affected as counting continues.
Just fewer than 6 million ballots were counted by Thursday afternoon.
Another 2 million ballots would put turnout right at the 45 percent participation rate forecast by the Field Poll.
Experts say voter participation likely didn't live up to a record number of registrations, partly because presidential primaries were settled.
