Cubs' Jason Heyward Called N-Word In Return To St. Louis

By: Evan Jankens

Jason Heyward signed an eight-year, $184 million contract with the Chicago Cubs this offseason.

Last season, Heyward spent the season with the St. Louis Cardinals and made his return to Busch Stadium Monday night.

According to the New York Daily News, the crowd didn't embrace Heyward in his return but taunted him instead. Mocking a player and booing him is just sports -- but these fans took it over the line if the reports are true.

The Daily News story said that fans allegedly yelled racial slurs at Heyward and the ESPN field mics picked it up on national TV.

Heyward said he wasn't effected by the boos, according to

"If somebody boos me here, that means they were not happy to see me leave," Heyward said. "I'm kind of glad that people weren't happy to see me leave. The fans should enjoy it, and we're going to enjoy it."

Heyward went 0-4 in his return to St. Louis and is hitting .188 for the season.
