Tim Howard Should Probably Run For President

(CBS) While the end result of Team USA's 2-1 extra-time loss to Belgium in the World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday was heartbreaking, it goes without saying that goalie Tim Howard was brilliant.

For 90-plus minutes of regulation, Howard kept the Americans in the game with a series of acrobatic saves -- he dove, he jumped, he sprawled, he crawled. By match's end, Howard had made a World Cup-record 16 saves.

And despite the disappointment, Howard received his due credit. He was a viral sensation as the talk of Twitter. Notably, a creative fellow changed the Wikipedia page on the U.S. Secretary of Defense to say that Howard held the office.

It lasted long enough to make the rounds on the Internet. Sorry, Chuck Hagel.

And that wasn't all. An official White House petition was started to rename the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after Howard.

"We politely request that we rename the airport to recognize his accomplishments and meritorious service to the United States of America," the petition stated, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Any Average Joe can start a petition on the "We the People" website, and the White House administration will respond if it gets 100,000 signatures. As of late Wednesday morning, the petition for Howard had around 4,000 signatures.
