Chelsea Clinton brought a group of volunteers from the Clinton Foundation.
"I want to thank you for all of the fantastic t-shirts. I particularly like the 'geeks give.' It is just so invigorating to see so many cheerful givers," said Clinton.
"I look out at 5,000 volunteers who are giving their day to the city that we love and I am humbled," said Bridgett Altenburg, Chicago Cares Executive Director.
"The one thing that I see about volunteerism is that the more people here about the opportunities to serve like Serve-a-Thon, the more they serve," said Altenberg.
Nearly 300 teams representing more than 100 companies are taking part.
