VALPARAISO, Ind. (CBS) -- A former middle school teacher is seeking to change his plea to guilty, hoping to receive six years probation for sexting with students.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports the judge told Bryan Tyman, "I don't know if I'll accept your guilty pleas." She then asked for a presentencing investigation, before she makes her final decision.
Tyman, 45, said nothing after leaving court. The former middle school teacher looked clean-cut in a suit. It's a stark contrast to his mug shot, following his arrest on felony child solicitation charges after sexting female students. Among the sext messages Tyman admits to sending three girls, a picture of his penis.
"Just hearing him admit to things, I think was the most upsetting," said Heather Antecki, a mother of one of the victims. "That was probably the most disheartening thing."
The plea agreement presented in court by Tyman's attorney, proposes the former teacher get: Six years probation, one year of house arrest and be required to be on a sex offender registry for 10 years.
One victim's father says that isn't enough.
"I don't believe in a plea agreement at all. I believe he deserves to get some time," said Roy Peeler, the father of one of the victims.
Attorney Bryan Truitt says his client is remorseful.
"He is very sorry. He knows and acknowledges he was the adult. He did not want these girls to go through anything else and he understands some of the anger of the parents because parents protect their kids," said Truitt.
As part of his plea agreement, Tyman must forfeit his teaching license and not accept any teaching positions.
The judge wants Tyman back in court on November 13, when she could reveal whether she's accepted the plea agreement.
