CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are searching for the driver of a silver or gray four-door sedan that was involved in a hit and run accident involving an 11-year-old girl.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Mary Frances Bragiel reports, the girl was chasing a ball that had ended up in the street when she was hit, according to investigators.

Relatives say she is recovering at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after suffering injuries to a leg.

The hit and run happened about 6:30 last night in the 7800 block of South Hermitage Avenue.

Witnesses said a young man driving south on Hermitage Avenue in a silver or gray four-door sedan struck the girl. The noise was loud enough for a car in front of the accident to hear it and stop, said the injured girl's aunt, Snovia Gosa.

But the car that hit the girl kept on going, only slowing to pass the car in front before turning the corner and speeding off westbound on 79th Street, Gosa said.
