Cash is king in this economy, but it apparently has not yet grabbed the attention of an elderly couple who lost a chunk of it.

On Dec. 21, Shannon Dowdle was walking into an Ulta Beauty store in Skokie and found some cash in a bank envelope on the sidewalk.

"I opened the envelope, and I counted the amount and I was just amazed. It was over $1,000," she told CBS 2's Mike Parker.

Since then, Shannon, of Glenview; her husband, Rick; and their kids have been working to find the rightful owner. They've canvassed the stores near their discovery, called police and the bank whose logo was on the envelope, and have been checking websites.

Interestingly, an elderly couple came into the Ulta store two days later, asking if anyone had found the envelope.

But while the story has received wide publicity, there is still no sign of the couple.

The Dowdles aren't giving up. They say they will continue to hold it until the rightful owners claim it.
