Hit-And-Run Crash Sends Vehicle Into Evanston Living Room

EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- After a hit-and-run crash, a sport-utility vehicle slammed into the living room of a home in Evanston Thursday afternoon.

Police said it was not the driver's fault. The SUV was headed south on a local street when it was hit by a hit-and-run driver, according to Evanston Fire Department Division Chief Kim Kull.

The crash caused the vehicle to lose control, veer off the road, and go directly into the living room of the home on Burnham Place near Sheridan Road.

The family who lives in the house was out on a walk when the crash happened, Kull said.

"This can be replaced, but thank God we weren't home, because we would have been sitting right where the car is," said Ali Tekdogan.

Officials said the house suffered structural damage, in addition to personal items.

There was no word late Thursday on the driver who caused the initial crash
