Governor Rauner Explains Veto Of CPS Pension Bailout

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Governor Bruce Rauner is defending his veto of a bailout of Chicago Public Schools pensions while saying he's still ready to negotiate with democratic leaders in the legislature.

The governor told reporters on Friday that pension reform across all levels of government was a clear part of the compromise budget agreement that allocated the money to pay for CPS teacher pensions.

But those reforms haven't materialized, so he vetoed the deal this week, WBBM's Nancy Harty reports.

"I am not walking away; I am not taking anything off the table. Let's honor our agreements with each other," Rauner said.

The governor and legislative leaders are expected to meet this weekend on the budget.
