Aschburner: Rose's Injury Might Be Worse Than We Think

(WSCR) When Derrick Rose first went down with his current groin injury, the Bulls were quiet but insisted the reigning MVP was day-to-day.

Well, day-to-day has become week-to-week as Rose has now missed 11 straight games.

"It's sure looking like the mother of all groin strains," Steve Aschburner of NBA.com told The Mully and Hanley Show. "I don't know that there's anything else you can do besides put the guy in a bubble and prevent him from moving around at all. People who have seen him try to run have said that it looks painful to them the way he moves. I heard people say that when he walks up the ramp at the United Center that he's hanging on to the railing, he's helping himself up or down. ... It seems serious. Groin strain is so generic that you think 'Oh, we've seen guys come back in a game or two.' To me, it has shifted since Sunday from 'Oh, he's a game-time decision' to 'He will play a game before the regular season ends.' There's only 11 left."

Without Rose, the Bulls have kept pace, but lost back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday for the first time since February of 2011.

"It seems to me that they have covered for Derrick Rose exceptionally well," Aschburner said. "They have set him aside and reached down into their bench and plugged holes and done what they needed night after night. I just think it's gone on too long. You can't lose your MVP to the extent that they have and not lose two games in a row at some point. That's unusual for this team, but that's sort of what happens. Until he comes back healthy, I think any ambitions they have for this spring really have to be tempered."
