After Blizzard, Store Has No Bananas Today

EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM/CBS) -- The old Broadway revue number, "Yes! We Have No Bananas" applied literally after the blizzard at a Dominick's food store in Evanston.

While at the Dominick's on Green Bay Road, WBBM Newsradio 780 Producer Helen Marshall discovered that a multi-tiered display table for bananas was completely empty.

A store service desk representative said the store was completely out of bananas, and effects of the blizzard were to blame. Many shoppers stocked up on various produce items before the blizzard hit Tuesday, and a new delivery for bananas has yet to arrive since that time.

The old song from the 1922 Broadway revue "Make It Snappy" goes on to reassure the shopper, "We've string beans and onions, cabbages and scallions," but such is not the case at the Evanston Dominick's. Since the blizzard, the store is out of green beans too, Marshall said.

The store was also low on cauliflower and broccoli.

There was a similar scene at a Jewel-Osco in Lakeview before the storm hit. Leo Bassett sent in a photo (below) of nearly empty produce shelves as folks rushed to stock up before the blizzard.
