Pre-employment review

It has been 10 weeks since Donald Trump was elected president, and our new poll shows more Americans disapprove than approve of the way he has handled the transition thus far. Just days before his inauguration, Mr. Trump’s favorable rating is the lowest of any president-elect in CBS News polling going back to 1981, when we began taking the measure.

Exit review

Looking back over the past eight years, a majority of Americans surveyed by CBS News say they approve of how President Obama has handled his time as the nation’s chief executive. We look at how his ratings compare with other recent American leaders and how those polled feel Mr. Obama handled the economy and foreign policy, specifically.

Susan Rice

Outgoing National Security Advisor Susan Rice tells Charlie Rose the most consequential international relationship the U.S. has right now is with China. She warns the delicate balance in place for decades is now being threatened by President-elect Donald Trump, who may change the U.S. stance on the hugely important “one China” policy.

Pit bull attack

A Georgia man remains jailed after his pit bulls attacked two elementary school children as they walked to their bus stop in Atlanta. Six-year-old Logan Braatz was killed and Syrai Sanders, five, was critically injured. We hear from Logan’s mother and a neighbor who rushed to help during the brutal attack.

Losing Louisiana

The geography of the Louisiana coastline is quickly changing. A state-commissioned report predicts rising water could swallow more land along the Gulf of Mexico if nothing is done to address damage caused by climate change and commercial activity.

Inauguration numbers

Donald Trump’s inauguration will be a massive production, but compared to some previous presidential coming-out parties, the event is shaping up to be fairly modest. We look at how much it will all cost and run down some other key figures.

Moving day

While Americans watch Donald Trump get sworn as president, White House staff will be engrossed in a lightning-fast moving operation. As Mark Knoller reports, simultaneously moving out the old president and his family while moving in the new president with his family is a massive undertaking.
