Black boxes

The AirAsia airliner that crashed 15 days ago probably exploded as it hit the water, due to a significant change in air pressure, a top Indonesian official said today. Earlier, reports CBS News Correspondent Jeff Pegues, divers retrieved one of the "black boxes" from the aircraft that plummeted into the Java Sea, a major breakthrough in the slow-moving hunt to recover bodies and wreckage. The other box has been spotted.

Most-wanted

It's believed Hayat Boumeddiene may have crucial information about whether her boyfriend and the other two attackers in Paris last week were part of a much bigger terrorist cell. She spent six days in Turkey before crossing into Syria. CBS News correspondent Holly Williams reports from Istanbul, Turkey, that if Boumeddiene has gone there to join ISIS or another extremist group, she will not be the first European woman to do so.

No-show

Secretary of State John Kerry's upcoming visit to France follows heavy criticism of the president for skipping Sunday's huge rally in Paris. There were no senior U.S. officials among the dozens of world leaders who came to show their support. CBS News White House correspondent Bill Plante reports on why officials are saying there was a good reason for that.

No visa?

The terror attacks in Paris last week put the threat posed by radicalized U.S. or European citizens back in the headlines, and with the violence has come new scrutiny on the visa waiver program. This is the program that enables U.S. citizens to travel to countries in Europe with just a passport in hand, instead of having to go through the somewhat onerous process of securing a visa, and it allows nationals from those countries (there are 38 in all) to come to the U.S. without visas.

Lasting movement?

The message 'I am Charlie', in support of the French satirical newspaper attacked by Islamic terrorists, has become the rallying cry of global condemnation of what demonstrators see as a direct attack on freedom of speech. As CBS News correspondent Charlie D'Agata reports, tragedy has a way of pulling people together.

Schieffer on Paris terror

If the motive of the killers who launched the attacks in Paris was to get the world's attention, they succeeded -- but perhaps not in the way they had wished. Support and solidarity for their victims spread immediately across France. Civilized people understood that this was not an attack on a small newspaper, but an attack on the values that are the foundation of our way of life.

Egypt gays vicory

A Cairo court acquitted 26 men today who had been accused of "debauchery," in a rare victory for Egypt's gay community that has of late faced an increasingly oppressive police crackdown. The defendants had faced between 1-9 years in prison on varying degrees of "debauchery" -- the most common Egyptian legal term used in cases against men accused of homosexuality.

Prosecuting Petraeus?

Attorney General Eric Holder told "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer that the decision on whether to bring charges against former CIA Director David Petraeus for passing classified information to his former mistress, Paula Broadwell, will be made at "the highest levels of the Justice Department." Both the FBI and federal prosecutors are recommending that Petraeus be charged.

Year-long high

In 2012, Colorado voters amended the state constitution to allow recreational pot - and gave the government one year to make it work. Colorado's governor calls it the most ambitious social experiment of the 21st century. Three other states also have approved recreational pot. But none has gone further or faster into the legal retail weed business than Colorado. The experiment just hit the one year mark, so "60 Minutes" correspondent Bill Whitaker headed to Denver, the epicenter of a marijuana industry that's now in full bloom.

Comeback

The New Year has brought change and new faces to much of our political landscape, not in the least on Capitol Hill, where Republicans took control of the Senate last week. From out of the West though, reports John Blackstone for "Sunday Morning," a different sight -- a familiar face on the Democratic side taking the oath of office yet again, many years after his political debut.

Social Security fairness

Whether you consider Social Security to be fair or not depends on a number of factors, such as the demographic group you're in throughout your life, your unique life circumstances and whether you take a narrow financial view as opposed to a broad social perspective.

Cryptic pregnancy

It may seem highly implausible for a woman to go through nine months of pregnancy without realizing she has a baby on the way. Yet experts say it happens more often than most people think. The phenomenon is called cryptic pregnancy, or pregnancy denial.

Acrobatic workout

Parkour is a style of bodyweight fitness that has captured the hearts of adrenaline junkies worldwide. For these people, conquering fear is simply a part of everyday life.

Sound power

Hollywood made it look easy to come up with music for the news in the 1987 movie "Broadcast News," but in the real world, it takes months -- sometimes years -- to create a tune that people will instantly associate with a product. CBS News correspondent Don Dahler met an expert who knows the power of sound.
