Trooper gets texts seeking illegal alcohol buy

(CBS/AP) ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Bethel, Alaska is a dry town - no one there is licensed to sell alcohol in the community 400 miles west of Anchorage.

Maybe that explains why two women apparently exchanged text messages in the search for an alcoholic beverage - texts that inadvertently were received by an Alaska State Trooper.

"Avengers" movie-goer pulls fire alarm in anger

(CBS) ABINGDON, Md. - A movie-goer at a Maryland showing of the "The Avengers" proved himself more of a super zero than a super hero, when he allegedly pulled the fire alarm in the theater, CBS Baltimore reported.

David Waiters is facing the possibility of up to five years in prison if convicted of signalling fire in a crowded Regal Cinemas Theater in Abingdon.

(CBS/KPHO) PHOENIX - A jury has convicted Tammi Smith of forgery and conspiracy to commit custodial interference in the case of missing Arizona baby Gabriel Johnson.

During the trial, prosecutors depicted Smith as a manipulative woman who was willing to do anything for another baby, CBS affiliate KPHO reports. They claimed Smith was trying to get the baby's father, Logan McQueary, to sign away his parental rights.

(CBS/AP) HOUSTON - Andrew Blomberg, a former Houston police officer, was acquitted Wednesday in the alleged beating of a black 15-year-old burglary suspect during a videotaped arrest.

The acquittal by an all-white jury upset community leaders who criticized the verdict as unjust and racist.
