ISIS front lines
CBS News anchor Scott Pelley, reporting for "60 Minutes," went to the front lines of the battle with ISIS. With the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in northern Iraq, Pelley got close enough to see the ISIS flag as the Kurds held a key bridge. People who were driven out by ISIS told of the brutality first hand.
Panetta on ISIS
ISIS seized a third of Iraq that the U.S. secured with ten years of sacrifice. In an interview for "60 Minutes," former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told Pelley that ISIS flourished because the U.S. got involved in Syria too late and left Iraq too soon.
Congressional support
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Michigan, asserted on CBS News' "Face the Nation" that it's time for President Obama to "stop saying no, start saying yes," in the fight against ISIS. His Senate counterpart, Democrat Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, said it's time to start looking at a broader authorization for the president to combat Islamic militants.
Short supply
"Face the Nation" anchor Bob Schieffer compares our politicians today with the Roosevelts. And Schieffer concludes the main difference is political courage.
PTSD jumper
As the Secret Service increases security around the White House, family members of the alleged White House fence jumper told CBS News correspondent Julianna Goldman he is a military veteran who developed severe mental problems, including post-traumatic stress disorder, during his three tours in Iraq.
Ravens cover-up?
New allegations in the Ray Rice case have the NFL and Baltimore Ravens playing defense once again. CBS News' Chip Reid reports that new questions are being raised about when officials learned of the video showing Rice knocking out his future wife.
Common Core
Launched by state officials in 2009, and later backed by the federal government, the Common Core set new academic standards for what students must master at every grade level. Forty-five states and the District of Columbia initially signed on. But now some states are re-thinking their approach, with critics of the new standards on both sides of the political divide. So, CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford reports for "Sunday Morning" on the grades the Common Core is receiving from educators and parents.
Ferguson problem solver
Eleven-year-old Marquis Govan approached the microphone at a meeting of the St. Louis County Council and in two minutes' time, tackled Ferguson's problems with unemployment, housing, and diversity. "I thought he was right on, he's exactly right," said Hazel Erby, who chairs the council . "CBS News Sunday Morning" correspondent Jane Pauley sat down with Govan and chatted more about the needs of Ferguson, and his own ambitions.
