Metro-North heroes
After the deadly Metro-North crash, confused passengers desperately attempted to make their way off the train and help others who were trapped. CBS News correspondent Vinita Nair reports James Wallace, who makes the commute from Manhattan to Connecticut regularly, was one of the heroes sitting in the second train car on Tuesday when the unthinkable happened.
ISIS front lines
Kurdish fighters interviewed by CBS News correspondent Holly Williams said they hadn't seen a single airstrike, though ISIS is just four miles away and has flattened a village with months of shelling. They're farmers, housewives and shopkeepers - volunteers relying on guns bought on the black market. A woman named Sipan quit her job as an elementary school teacher five months ago to become a sniper on the front line - but they're so under-equipped, she has to share her gun with another fighter.
Danger below
Manhole explosions are possible side effects of treating roads covered in snow and ice. Crews have responded to at least 300 manhole fires in New York City alone since last week's snowstorm, and one man walking his dog was injured when a manhole cover blew off in an explosion. CBS News correspondent Anna Werner reports from one Brooklyn neighborhood where at least two fires broke out within days.
Little help
As the IRS budget continues to be cut, its services are collapsing. In a recent report to Congress, the National Taxpayer Advocate, an independent organization within the IRS, said this year the agency is unlikely to answer even half of taxpayer calls. And if you do get through, expect hold times to average 30 minutes or more.
Internet control
After nearly 4 million Americans wrote in, multiple court cases, and pressure from President Obama, the Federal Communications Commission is now considering robust new rules to enforce net neutrality. The term refers to the idea that Internet service providers should treat all web traffic equally, without giving priority access to certain sites or content providers. To ensure that equal treatment, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has proposed treating the Internet like a public utility.
Google Lunar XPrize
For most of the past year, we've been following the progress of some of the leading competitors shooting for the moon in the Google Lunar XPrize competition. There is a $30 million purse of prizes at stake to incentivize 18 international teams in this modern race to the moon. Throughout 2014, five of the teams competed for a set of additional Milestone Prizes. Six million dollars in interim prizes were available to the teams that best showed their possible ability to get to the moon. CBS News traveled around the globe to visit those amazing groups of people trying to do the impossible on a shoestring budget. It's time to see how they did.
Pop science
As a society, we're obsessed with celebrities. We just can't get enough of their drama, bad fashion decisions and scandalous affairs. But recently, it seems the public isn't just turning to movie stars for entertainment -- we're listening to their health advice. Why is the public clinging to all of this celebrity pseudoscience?
Hard-work beauty
Molly Sims wasn't born this way, she says. The model/actress insists she's worked hard to stay fit and fashionable. The former Sports Illustrated supermodel poured all of her beauty and wellness knowledge into a book centered on makeup tips, fashion advice and overall life lessons. Called "The Everyday Supermodel," Sims' book finds her dishing out hard-earned beauty secrets.
Truckstop MD
A decorated hero who served with the Army's elite Delta Force recently earned another honor: "Country Doctor of the Year." CBS News correspondent Vicente Arenas reports from Raphine, Virginia, on Dr. Rob Marsh, who turned a truck stop into a place to treat patients.
