Third party spoilers

Republicans and Democrats are vying for control of the Senate, but a few third-party candidates could upend everything.

Handicapping the races

The battle for control of the Senate is coming down to the wire, as Democrats and Republicans make their last-minute pushes. Tight races for the governor's seats in Florida, Wisconsin and Colorado have prompted campaign spending that has surpassed Senate races by millions. "CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley got the latest from CBS News political coverage team of Nancy Cordes, Bob Schieffer, Bill Whitaker and John Dickerson.

How election projections are made

Training by fire

There's growing concern inside the intelligence community that extremist groups may launch new attacks against American embassies and other facilities. CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan reports that agents charged with protecting them are now getting special training from the New York Fire Department, learning to counter one of the cheapest, most accessible and lethal weapons in the field.

Doomed SpaceshipTwo

Federal investigators are continuing to collect evidence from the wreckage of the space plane that blew up over California. But CBS News correspondent John Blackstone reports they now know more about what happened in the seconds before Virgin Galactic's space tourism rocket broke apart.

Ebola insurance

Multinational corporations and nongovernmental organizations that operate at the epicenter of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, as well as U.S. health care facilities, are scrambling to make sure they have adequate insurance coverage against the deadly disease. However, insurers are starting to issue riders or endorsements on policies limiting or in some cases excluding from coverage of any activities in the countries affected by the deadly disease.

Las Vegas casino revenue dropped for the second month in a row in September, falling 12 percent compared to the same month a year earlier. Gambling on the Las Vegas strip is no longer a guaranteed jackpot. CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy reports on how the city is once again reinventing itself to win big.
