Tricky, but vital

Donald Trump will be forced to deal with a lot of complicated international issues, especially Turkey. It’s an indispensable but angry NATO ally, led by an assertive, strong-minded president who’s been making noises about going his own way in the Middle East, and is being courted by Russia. “60 Minutes” asks Recep Tayyip Erdoğan why he’s so “disillusioned” with the U.S.

GOP prospects

The 2016 elections left Democrats with two major losses: in addition to losing the White House to Donald Trump, they failed to retake the Senate from Republican control. At this point, 2018 doesn’t look any better for them. For the many lawmakers facing reelection, the prospect of Republicans obtaining a filibuster-proof 60 votes in the Senate is looming large.

Tax changes

Donald Trump’s surprise presidential victory is expected to produce some of the most sweeping changes in how Americans pay federal income tax in decades, from reducing the number of brackets to overhauling deductions. We break down how President-elect Trump’s plan could affect taxpayers.

Struggling retirees

In a blow to millions of U.S. seniors, Social Security benefits are slated to rise only 0.3 percent in 2017. That continues a string of meager increases in federal payouts for retirees, eroding many people’s purchasing power. So what can older Americans can do to cope with the tepid growth in benefits?

The Zapruder film

It has been called the most important 26 seconds of film ever recorded: A Dallas dressmaker captured the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy in horrific detail. Now, his granddaughter is sharing the story behind the images that shook America.

Lots of danger

How dangerous can a walk through a parking lot be? The answer could surprise you. Even though people tend to drive a lot slower in parking lots, we take a look at the potential consequences of driver distraction and other pitfalls that can turn an everyday activity deadly.

Degree longevity

Soaring tuition costs, along with the mounting burden of student loans, have caused some Americans to question the value of getting a college degree. But research points to a benefit of higher education that many people don’t consider: It can apparently extend your life.

Vatican tech

With just 21 permanent staff, Vatican TV is a small operation, but it’s broadcasting the “Pope’s message” with technology so advanced, few people even have televisions fancy enough to do the images justice. We meet some of the people behind the channel, and ask why it’s worth the expense.
