Nervous neighbors

The isolated North Korean regime's claim of the country's first ever hydrogen bomb test has drawn a barrage of condemnation -- including from Beijing, Kim Jong Un's most important ally. Tense relations between the two neighbors had been warming, but the purported nuclear weapons test has frayed nerves across the region.

Obama's hurdles

President Obama's executive actions on firearms are considered a moderate victory for those in favor of tightening gun laws, but some of the moves could still face legal and legislative hurdles. A constitutional law expert says the actions are "on solid legal ground," but that doesn't mean there won't be a fight.

Birther is back

Questions about Ted Cruz's citizenship status could be a "big problem" for the GOP if Cruz wins the presidential nomination, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump says, adding that he'd "hate" to see the issue get in the way of the GOP's leadership chances.

El Niño

The weather phenomena is threatening parts of the already-inundated West with more dangerous storms. Residents are being warned to expect more heavy rains -- possibly as much as 6 inches by Friday -- flash flooding and high winds.

Kids vs. NFL

A youth soccer league is going up against the NFL in a California courtroom. The soccer league claims the city of Santa Clara is illegally allowing the NFL to use fields they usually play on next to Levi's Stadium, which is hosting Super Bowl 50 next month.

Fantasy defense

Fantasy sports companies like DraftKings and FanDuel aren't standing idly by as states move to regulate them. To fight back, the industry is lobbying state lawmakers around the U.S. to head off legal challenges and to try to shape any new rules affecting fantasy sports gaming.
