David Bowie
One of the biggest names in popular culture of the last 40 years has died. Few people even knew David Bowie, 69, was battling cancer, but he lost his battle just days after releasing his latest album, on which, in retrospect, he seems almost to have been saying goodbye.
Butting heads
Increased tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the wake of the execution of a prominent Shiite cleric by the Saudis is making the road ahead for the U.S. in the region even more complicated. The U.S. needs the two countries to collaborate in the fight against ISIS and on other major issues, but right now, that's a tall order.
Murder mystery
Italy has been gripped once again by a murder case involving a young American woman, and the parallels to the drawn-out legal drama of Amanda Knox are plain to see. The body of 35-year-old Miami native Ashley Olsen was found Saturday by her boyfriend and landlady. As of yet, there isn't a single suspect.
Powerball
Twenty-five lucky people walked away with a nice consolation prize of one million dollars Saturday, but the big Powerball payout is still up for grabs. At $1.3 billion, the jackpot is currently the largest in the world -- and it's hard to resist, even for those who rarely pay.
NFL in L.A.
After more than 20 years without a NFL franchise, Los Angeles is on the verge of regaining a pro football team as the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams compete to relocate to the nation's second-biggest market. But in this competition, even the losers stand to gain.
Car talk
Equipping the country's cars and trucks with vehicle-to-vehicle technology, or V2V, will essentially allow vehicles to see each other and warn of potential dangers -- before drivers even know about them. The Department of Transportation has just taken a major step toward making the technology mandatory.
Sneaky salt
Health officials warn that 90 percent of Americans eat too much salt, raising their risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and other health problems. Much of that sodium is hidden in processed or prepared foods, including some you might never expect.
