Knockout snow

It's a bone-chilling morning from the upper Midwest to New England. A blast of frigid cold air will push all the way to the South by the end of the weekend. Meanwhile, coastal Maine and Massachusetts are under a blizzard watch. A new storm threatens to dump a foot or more of snow on areas still recovering from record-breaking snowfall. Nicole Jacobs of CBS station WBZ reports from Boston.

Cyber protection

The federal government can't protect your cyber data by itself. That's why President Obama is expected to unveil executive actions today designed to increase information sharing between private sector companies and federal law enforcement. The administration says strengthening the federal government's capabilities is becoming increasingly necessary to protect American consumers.

Not so smart

The "smart" home may not be quite as clever as you think. CBS News MoneyWatch reports that the arrival of the so-called Internet of things -- where household items such as thermostats, washing machines and webcams are connected to a global network -- means security problems may also be on the rise. A study found that commonly connected products opened up a host of safety issues.

Follow the flowers

Americans are expected to spend nearly $19 billion this year for Valentine's Day. More than $2 billion will be spent on flowers alone. CBS News correspondent Vicente Arenas tracked flowers from a farm in Colombia to a store in North Carolina.

50 Shades of business

Doubters of the idea "sex sells" need only look to the fanfare surrounding today's release of "50 Shades of Grey." The movie is the first adaptation of the steamy book trilogy by British author E. L. James. Hundreds of scheduled showings around the country are already sold out. CBS News correspondent Vinita Nair points out that theaters aren't the only businesses cashing in.

Not enough

Plenty of obese people who need to lose weight for medical reasons say they get sick and tired of being told to eat less and exercise more. And for good reason: A growing body of research finds lifestyle and behavioral modifications often are not enough to help someone drop a significant amount of weight and keep it off.

Dating politics

Democrats and Republicans likely agree that the country is increasingly polarized, that George Bush failed to live up to his promise to be a uniter, not a divider, and Barack Obama is nowhere near delivering on changing the way Washington works. But chances are they wouldn't agree on who bears the lion's share of the blame. The country has, for the time being, settled into its separate cultural corners. And that may be making it difficult for the politically interested to find compatible dates.

Someone out there

There's someone out there for everyone. And now, with a growing number of incredibly specific niche dating sites to choose from, it's easier than ever to find exactly what you're looking for in an ideal mate.
