Citing multiple sources, TechCrunch reports Spotify plans to port an overhauled version of its software to the Web. Currently, the users of the service have to download software to use the service. Moving the software to the Web could increase the frequency of use and the company's user base.

The DNC is creating several opportunities for supporters to engage on social media networks. An official app on Facebook lets users tweet their nominations on Twitter, using the phrase "I nominate Barack Obama because..." and the hashtag #INominateDNC. A DNC 2012 app has been launched for iPhones and Android devices. The app lets users view the convention schedule, explore Charlotte and follow convention tweets.

The new Spotify for Android will be completely redesigned from "top-to-bottom." Some of the new features include: new "slide-out" navigation, the ability to view profiles and playlists, related artist view, high-resolution imagery and 320kbps listening. Support for Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is also included in the update.

(CBS) - The popular music service Spotify announced today that it was opening the door for third-party developers to create HTML 5 apps. The company's chief executive officer Daniel Ek took the stage this afternoon in New York to share the news.
Developers will be able to access Spotify's music library through a JavaScript API. Companies like Rolling Stone, Last.fm and TuneWiki already have apps created. You'll be able to access these apps right inside of the Spotify desktop client.

Spotify to unveil "what's next" in conference

/ Spotify(CBS/CNET) - Spotify sent out invitations today for a global press conference teasing "what's next" for the music streaming service.
The invitation was light on details, only saying that founder and CEO Daniel Ek and "a special guest or two" would be around to make an announcement. The conference is scheduled for November 30 at 9 a.m. PT.

Google Music gives iTunes some competition
(CBS) - Google Music launched Wednesday with an event in Los Angeles.
The service has been in beta since this summer. New features include the ability to purchase songs right from the online music player, deeper integration with Android devices and content partnerships. A new feature called the Artists Hub creates a market place for unsigned musicians.
If the Google Music catches on, it will certainly give iTunes and Spotify some competition. The service works by uploading your music to the cloud. You can access your library on the web via the Google Music homepage.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Sure, it's annoying, but Spotify provides a free service with a user interface that is optimized for Facebook integration. That said, there's a way to get access to the music streaming service without having to connect your Facebook to it.

(CBS) - Get ready music-loving Facebook users, the social network plans to launch a music service in September, according to CNBC.
We first learned of the music service rumors back in July when tech blogger Jeff Rose published a snippet of code that looks like a call to download an app called "Facebook Vibes."
